Solution Summary: Magnetic Nail Holder
Description:
A magnetic nail holder is an engineering control that can help reduce struck-by injuries because it provides a striking barrier that covers the fingers while the nail is positioned and hammered. The holder is a clam-shell like device that has finger loops to grip and close the device. It also contains an elastic band that helps keep it open into its resting position. While the nail is loaded in its resting position, the nail is magnetically held in place.
A magnetic nail holder, such as the Safety Nailer, supports nails that are at least 1.5-inche long and has a 0.2-inch diameter magnetic opening that can secure up to a size 20D nail (figure 1). It can also hold staples (figure 2) and screws (figure 3). The device is made from impact-resistance ABS plastic and neodymium magnets.

Risks Addressed:
Struck-by object injuries are produced by forcible contact or impact between the injured person and an object or piece of equipment. A magnetic nail holder reduces the risk of workers striking their fingers while hammering.
How Risks are Reduced:
A magnetic nail holder is a simple solution that positions a nail while simultenaously providing a shield for the fingers around the striking zone area. Further, the device can also help keep nails in a stable position for more accurate hammering.
Additional Considerations:
It is recommended users follow all manufacturer guidelines before using this equipment to ensure worker safety and compliance with applicable local, state or federal regulations. Per the manufacturer, "use of this product does not guarantee your safety or that you will not hit your fingers or other body part."
Use safety eye protection while using this product.
